Essen for the soul
Meeting with the Seemer sisters in Wenholthausen
"Can we stay here a little longer?" I think I read in Klaus-Peter's gaze. With all the taking of photos and asking questions, we haven't really taken the time to enjoy a leisurely feast. But you should do that in the Schmallenberg Sauerland and the vacation region Eslohe definitely should! Delicious cakes and tarts, down-to-earth Sauerländer food and star menus - moments of indulgence are part of the program here. We are at Landgasthof Seemer, which is located directly on the Sauerlandradring and is run by the two sisters Alexandra Weißenfels-Seemer and Julia Seemer. We sit at a lovingly laid table in the middle of the garden, surrounded by old apple trees and the sound of birdsong and the babbling brook. The crispy aroma of a typical Sauerland dish fills our nostrils: potato pancakes! But with a different and regional twist: with game ham, home-pickled salmon trout fillet, homemade apple chutney with garden apples and quark with herbs from the home garden. To sit in!
"This is a dish we remember from our childhood. A Essen for the soul that puts a smile on your face."
Landgasthof Seemer
There is a lot of home in their dishes. What they don't grow in their garden, they source from the Sauerland and from neighboring regions. "This has also allowed me to get to know the area and the people much better myself and give me a connection to the good life," says chef Alexandra Weißenfels-Seemer. The two are also members of "Green Chefs" and supporters of "Slow Food" and therefore stand for the sustainable use of food and respectful treatment of people and animals. Incidentally, the inn is one of the oldest in the region and was once a stagecoach station. The house was first mentioned in a document in 1536. In 2014, the two sisters took over the helm of the family business. Their signature style of preserving traditions and interpreting them in a contemporary and smart way can be seen not only on the menu, Sondern but also in the design of the guest rooms. If you can't get enough of the great, down-to-earth cuisine and the beautiful garden, you can also stay overnight. From allergy-friendly superior rooms to camper van pitches, there is something for everyone.
HeimatGlück
...for the two sisters Alexandra and Julia from Landgasthof Seemer in Wenholthausen for their love of their profession and their family business. That's why they have named the products they offer in their online store, at weekly markets and in their own restaurant. The idea of producing some of their popular dishes as a takeaway option in a jar came to them during the long lockdown in times of coronavirus. With success: "The venison Bolognese is a big hit," they say, "it's great at lunchtime, in the evening, for young and old, with pasta or mashed potatoes." In second place is the "Wild Currywurst", a delicious, quick lunch snack, and the apple and onion lard, "the Nutella of adults", the two say with a laugh.
Which means: you just can't get enough of HeimatGlück! Herbal syrup, goat curry, beer jelly - everything is of course regional and homemade, and the Seemers also like to try out new things. The employees also contribute their ideas. For example, there is sometimes something completely unconventional, such as pesto made from radish greens, which is also very sustainable because all of the spicy vegetables are used. So: close your eyes and enjoy, and the vacation feeling will return immediately, I promise! At www.heimat gluecktogo.com you can also find other products and treasures from the Sauerland.
