Nature meets art
The unique Waldskulpturenweg between nature and art Schmallenberg and Bad Berleburg takes you a total of 23 km to 11 extraordinary sculptures and art installations.
They all combine two themes: The often contradictory connection between man and nature on the one hand and the development of the two neighboring regions Wittgenstein and Sauerland. For centuries, they have been separated by a territorial, linguistic, cultural and religious border, which is now being crossed by means of art.

The parish church St. Peter und Paul in Wormbach has been the stage for brilliant organ concerts, masterful chamber music and choral symphonic sounds for more than 35 years. During the summer months, ten top-class classical concerts with various focuses are always presented. And the organ, string instruments and voices always play a major role - embedded in the special atmosphere of the original Sauerland parish, St. Peter und Paul Wormbach.
A large orchestra hall, a chamber music hall, a choir hall and an impressive 10 rehearsal rooms: the newly built music education center in Bad Fredeburg sets standards for musicians far beyond the region. Acoustically optimized rooms and a full range of orchestral and band instruments in combination with the adjoining hotel and youth guest facilities create ideal rehearsal conditions for orchestras, choirs and groups. Musicians often share their passion with music lovers and present their art in public concerts. Numerous guest performances also take place in the large halls.

A home for art
Art has found its home in this historically significant location, the "lower mill" from the 14th century. Schmallenberg found its home. Changing exhibitions of national and international artists inspire visitors year after year. Different genres are presented, ranging from painting, drawing, sculpture, and photography to new media, textiles, spatial installation, and performance. In addition, readings by renowned writers and art workshops with renowned lecturers make the Kunsthaus a cultural hub.
Textile
Textiles has a Schmallenberg long tradition. Stocking knitting factories make the city famous to this day, and in earlier times spinning, weaving and sewing took place everywhere. The festival picks up on these textile traces to bring textiles to life as art, as a communal experience or as a workshop. The 2015 festival served as the prelude, followed by various workshops and exhibitions this year, and will continue to be offered in the future.
In the rooms of the Lennestudio at Lennepark Schmallenberg the SummerAcademy offers Rothaarsteig workshops and seminars on all aspects of art. Renowned lecturers and artists will show you ways to realize your own artistic talents. They want to inspire you with things that lie dormant within you and can be expressed if you give them space and time.
The youth art school supports children and young people in their individual abilities, skills and talents. Art education and trying out one's own creative abilities are at the top of the agenda in the workshops. A wide variety of workshops with a maximum of 10 participants, led by professional instructors, provide direct access to art and creative activities.
Südwestfälische Galerie
Art of the home region Südwestfalen with a focus on the 19th century to the present day is presented at Südwestfälische Galerie in Holthausen. It is the only institution in the Sauerland it has a unique art collection with around 7,000 paintings, prints and sculptures. Local artists such as Paul Hermann Schoedder, Hinrich Grauenhorst and Carl Siebert are among many others represented in the collection. The gallery is affiliated to the Westphalian Slate Mining and Local History Museum in Holthausen affiliated.

In an imposing factory building near Oberkirchen is home to Kunstschmiede Schütte and the adjoining blacksmith's café. Bronze, copper, and wrought iron are worked into intricate and detailed works of art here, which you can admire in the large exhibition and outdoor area, and purchase for your own garden.
At Martin Vollmert in Schmallenberg glass becomes works of art. He has been working in the glass art trade for more than 25 years and produces historical windows or new designs based on his own and external designs. In the gallery attached to his workshop, you will find various glass objects available for purchase

To the workshop for glass design...
Bronze, iron and lead crystal glass are used to create special art objects in Uwe Föster 's blacksmith's workshop. Small and large objects that can decorate your home and garden can be found in the 380 square meter exhibition right next to the workshop. Commissioned works according to customer requirements are also produced here - individually and with the utmost care.
Churches in Schmallenberg Sauerland
You will find numerous traces of faith in the villages of the Schmallenberger Sauerland. There are impressive churches in many places; you will also come across wayside crosses, wayside shrines and small chapels along the way. They were all built by the people of the region and are still maintained and preserved today.

The Cultural Association Schmallenberg and the art association Pro Forma Eslohe provide a wide variety of cultural events in our region year after year. Theater, cabaret, readings or concerts enrich the offer for locals and guests.
