Anton Kebekus
The man with the hat...
Anton Kebekus from Sauerland and his wife Rita opened the hiking shop Kompass more than 20 years ago and thus created the perfect complement to his favourite subject: being outdoors. Whether hiking, canoeing, camping (also in November) - everything in the great outdoors inspires him. On 220 m², customers can get hiking and mountain boots, outdoor clothing, backpacks and tents - and above all entertaining, first-class advice.
"Not a day goes by when we don't laugh at something together. It's always informal and informal here."
Sustainable on the road
Less is more
Sustainability is also an important issue for the Sauerlander. That's why he tries to find out how someone wanders in the customer conversation. "If a customer is not afraid of getting a little wet, for example, then the weather protection jacket does not have to be absolutely waterproof. This not only saves impregnation, but also the plastic the membrane is made of for insulation." Anyway, the trend is back towards natural materials. Anton Kebekus is a wool fan. "Sportswear made of merino wool can absorb a lot of moisture, but can also release it again quickly. It balances out temperature differences, is breathable and antibacterial. Reasonable woollen clothing can be worn for four to five days without your fellow hikers turning up their noses. Cotton, on the other hand, does not work at all. When you sweat, a shirt is a wet rag on your body that cools you down."
