Project #G.A.S.T. invites school pupils to explore career fields
Recruiting young talent is a central theme of our project. It is important now to recruit the next generation for tomorrow and to attract young people to sound training in the hotel and catering industry. And so the #G.A.S.T. project, together with the project partners DEHOGA Schmallenberg and Schmallenberg Unternehmen Zukunft (SUZ) and the Rotary Club, the #G.A.S.T. project offered a very practical career Schmallenberg for the first time a very practical career exploration for pupils. In two school hours, they had the opportunity to experience and try out typical professional situations at three different "stations". This was made possible by the owners and trainers of Familotel Ebbinghof, the Hotel Deimann and the Hotel Rimberg. They were also on hand during the pilot event to answer questions and provide information about training opportunities at their hotels. Opportunities to complete an internship were also discussed and agreed directly on this occasion. We hope to be able to hold further exploration days in the future through cooperation between companies and schools in the region. The planning for this is underway. Pupils who would like to find out more about training opportunities or internships in the hotel and catering industry are welcome to contact the project office.
Needs analysis/survey
A precise needs analysis should lay the foundation and determine the real wishes and expectations of employees and companies with regard to the project. In collaboration with the FH Südwestfalen we drew up a questionnaire for employers and employees in summer 2018, which was distributed to the companies.
We received numerous questionnaires by the beginning of September last year and they were evaluated at the university of applied sciences. Südwestfalen evaluated at the university. The detailed results report has already been completed and distributed to all companies and employees. The contents and findings are an important prerequisite for us to be able to continue the project in a needs-oriented and targeted manner.
Cooperation with the career platform www.karriere-suedwestfalen.de
A framework agreement with our #G.A.S.T. project enables participating companies to use the careers portal and place job advertisements free of charge until the end of 2019 without having to pay any costs or enter into any contractual obligations. This is our response to the current need of our companies to recruit suitable personnel.
The offer with corresponding information on how to proceed was sent to our companies at the end of last year. If you would like to take advantage of this offer or have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us!

Gastro-Card & gastronomy experiences
The project is actively addressing the topic of "employee benefits" in the hotel and catering industry. We are currently clarifying the tax law requirements as to which benefits employers and other partners can make available to employees. The aim is to provide employees with various benefits within the industry by issuing an "employee card". The idea is to offer discounts on accommodation and F&B services at partner businesses in the region. In a second step, we would also like to supplement the card with services from leisure providers in the region.
Successful kick-off event for the #G.A.S.T. project on 12.07.2018
Around 50 guests, hoteliers, restaurateurs and employees alike, accepted the invitation to the launch event of the #G.A.S.T. project at Holz- und Touristikzentrum in Schmallenberg.
Our #G.A.S.T. project was awarded the Sparkassen Tourism Prize Westfalen-Lippe 2018. We are delighted and would like to thank all our partners and sponsors for the successful project so far.
After 20 months of project duration, the #G.A.S.T. skilled worker project formally ended in December 2019. Here you will find a description of the initial situation and project objectives, all measures implemented in the project and a final evaluation as well as an outlook for the future.
